IIBEC Southern Ontario Chapter’s “Roof Technology & Science I” Course was held virtually over 4 afternoons in November 2023 (November 9, 10, 23, and 24). The course was a great success with 2 presenters and 22 attendees. IIBEC SOC would like to thank our presenters Burt Carver, Owner of Apex Building Sciences Inc. and Peter Saunders, Building Science & Technical Services Lead of Henry Canada.
This four-day course is a first component of a two-part series covering, in detail, aspects of the technology and science of roofing. It covers the history and evolution of roofing up to present-day common applications. It features terminology and technical information regarding roof decks and structures, roof insulation, bitumen membranes, built-up and modified bitumen membranes and flashing systems. An understanding of heat transfer theory, moisture, thermal design, and the calculation of U-factors will also be presented.
In addition to the course, IIBEC SOC offered a review of the RRO application process and requirements on Thursday November 23rd before the Roof Technology and Sciences I course to go over the following:
- Focus on test preparation materials and resources with attention to general exam sections & objectives
- Review of the RRO Handbook
