Amidst uncertain times, the Southern Ontario Chapter of IIBEC rallied together on September 16^th, 2020 for our annual golf tournament at the beautiful Lionhead Golf Club in Brampton Ontario. Although slightly delayed, the 84 golfers were treated to perfect sunny and hot weather and a great way to end the summer season.

The format of the day was altered to accommodate social distancing protocols, with the first round of carts departing at 9:00 am and teams departing every ten minutes thereafter. Lunch was available at the clubhouse and served on their patio.

IIBEC Southern Ontario hosted our fourth continuing education webinar at 11 am on Wednesday November 18th on the topic of Skylights and the Building Envelope.

The webinar was very well attended by 37 people. The webinar highlighted how skylights can provide various benefits to the building envelope such as energy savings, while demonstrating how natural daylighting can enhance productivity, health, and well-being with other potential benefits to building occupants. Additional topics covered included product testing and compliance, high impact fall protection testing, guidelines for sloped glazing installation methods and best practices. The webinar was presented by Steve Kadivnik, LEED Green Associate, and Nenzio Ferrazzo, B.Arch.Sci., both from Artistic Skylight.

• The IIBEC Southern Ontario Chapter’s Annual General Meeting will be held virtually on January 28, 2021 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.

IIBEC Southern Ontario hosted our third continuing education webinar at 11 am on Thursday October 27^th on the topic of Inverted Roofing Design. The webinar was very well attended by 47 people. The webinar highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of Protected Membrane Roofs versus Conventional Roofs, its evolution (1970’s-present), design recommendations, wind uplift testing, and fire resistance. The webinar was presented by Guy Titley, Senior Research Engineer for DuPont’s Safety and Construction Business.

IIBEC Southern Ontario Chapter hosted our first educational event during social distancing on June 4^th, 2020. The morning webinar was hosted by Rick Buist of Tremco Vegetative Roofing, and moderated by Kyle Boyce, Director of Education for IIBEC Southern Ontario Chapter. The webinar, on the topic of “Green Roof Failures: What’s to Blame?” was attended by 21 industry professionals and focused on the Best Practices in Green Roofing., including how to successfully design, install and maintain a healthy successful green roof. The presentation was well received, and thanks to all the members that attended
