IIBEC Southern Ontario hosted the online course, Building Enclosure Quality Assurance, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m. on October 7, 2021.  The online live course was attended by 13 people and was presented by Jennifer Hogan, RRO.

The course for professionals provided in-depth information for in-field inspections and application quality.  The course covered the diverse and challenging aspects of roofing, waterproofing, and exterior walls encountered in the field.

Highlights of the course included:

• Contract administration
• Construction contract documents

The Southern Ontario Chapter of IIBEC got together on July 28 for its annual golf tournament at the beautiful Lionhead Golf Club in Brampton, Ontario. A total of 104 golfers were treated to a fantastic day on the links to properly enjoy the summer season.

IIBEC Southern Ontario hosted our second continuing education webinar of the year on May 26, 2021 on the topic of the CCDC 2 – 2020.

The webinar was well attended by 22 people. The webinar covered the most crucial changes in the new version of the CCDC 2 including payment terms, Ready for Takeover and Early Occupancy, safety, companion documents and contracts, and best practices including supplementary conditions. The webinar was presented by Michael Swartz, Partner at WeirFoulds LLP, Krista Chaytor, Partner at WeirFoulds LLP, and moderated by Meagan Kikuta.

IIBEC Southern Ontario hosted our first continuing education online course, Roof System Thermal and Moisture Design, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. on both May 13^th and 20^th, 2021.  The online live course was attended by 18 people and included speakers Michael Hensen and Burt Carver and moderators Connor James and Jim Detz.

The course for consultants and industry members provided in-depth thermal and moisture design information spanning from basic thermal terminology and calculations to cooling-load calculations, annual energy consumptions and payback calculations, cool roofing, and temperature calculations within cross sections. Additional topics included vapor retarders, the effects of moisture on insulation, air barriers, and mold issues.

IIBEC SOC Annual General Meeting – January 28, 2021

The IIBEC Southern Ontario Chapter held its first ever virtual Annual General Meeting on January 28^th, 2021 with a total of 56 members attending. Unlike other years, we were unable to host a networking and curling event following the AGM.

The event began with an opening message from the current Chapter President Denis Theriault and an introduction of the current 2020 Board of Directors. Denis thanked the current Board for their work throughout the year. Denis introduced the incoming president Allen Lyte and Kevin Voorberg reviewed the 2020 Financial Statements and the proposed 2021 Budget. Following the financial statement, each of the Committee Directors provided an update on the progress of their respective committees.

The election process for the new 2021 Board of Directors was held online prior to the AGM. The new board is:

We would like to recognize and thank the following departing board members: Kyle Boyce, Michel Paulin, and Stephanie Robinson for their contribution to the 2020 Board. The Chapter benefited greatly from their time and expertise.

Awards and Recognition:

Before departing his post as President, Denis Theriault announced that the Ontario Chapter had once again been granted Gold Level for the IIBEC Chapter Awards which will be presented at this year’s National Convention. The Southern Ontario Chapter then presented awards to:

• The “President Recognition Award” was presented to outgoing President Denis Theriault
• The “Outstanding Committee Chair Award” was presented to Kyle Boyce.
• The “Katharine Spavins Award in Recognition of Exceptional Volunteer Service” was presented to Gary Hamilton
• The “Outstanding Sponsor Award” was presented to Artistic Skylight Domes, which Lora Bourck accepted.
